I ship with the Imposter simply because I enjoy the ship and just for alot of personal reasons, as well
Do you believe it would work in canon, or is it a purely personal thing(sorta like the people who ship the Joker and Batman while admitting that would never work in canon)

It definitely wouldn't work in canon. It's mostly just a personal thing.

I ship dan with a lot of people but my top choice has to be chris for a lot of reasons, I don't know how to explain it though. They just work for me. And maybe a bit of it also has to do with me being really gay and projecting onto dan, idk.

Becky just worked the best. He seemed really interested, but the thing with her father got in the way. I wish we could've seen them go on an actual date.
For the most obvious answer, I shipped Dan with Chris due to overwhelming evidence with Dan's opinion that Chris should never have gotten married, his distaste for his best friend's wife, and his clinginess to Chris. Not gonna list them all because we'll be here all day. But as an example, we have Dan's reaction from the very first episode towards a locket containing a picture of Elise. "Hey, that's not me." and boom, the rest is history. My favorite interpretation of this ship is the one-sided interpretation where only Dan has a crush on Chris, but Chris is either oblivious or he does know it but will not act upon it because 1. he's married and 2. he's not ready to be in a gay relationship. Hence, the one-sided interpretation. Potential for angst aside, it's a dynamic that just pushes the right buttons for me. Imagine the drama hohoho. Another interpretation also with a potential for angst is that Dan and Chris are seeing each other behind Elise's back. Gasp! Ikr? (PSA: adultery is bad, kids... unless it's in fiction lol). Needless to say, I have mixed feelings with that one due to the whole cheating thing. But if a fic manages to make it well-written, chances are I might enjoy it and see the appeal.
Another contender is Dan and Imposter Dan, later known as the Telemarketer thanks to that s2 episode and the shipping between those two just got stronger. This one tends to lean on the creepy side such as with interpretations of the Imposter being obsessed with Dan. Hence, there are stories out there that depict the two in a...hmm, not so good relationship. *coughBeatdowncough* but I still miss that comic and I wish they had continued it but the last page was from 2018 . Fluffier interpretations exist too but they don't cut the mustard for me. I have some... dark tastes ok? (don't judge lmao) and I'm picky.
With that out of the way, now we got a perfect mess of a love triangle (or quadrangle if you want to get Elise involved). Imposter Dan loves Dan who loves Chris but loves Elise, with the first two being one-sided as heck and the latter two being the only thing that resembles a mutual relationship. Ugh, what a mess I say! Someone should write a fic about that (and I don't mean me because I procrastinate fffff... I could if I try... give me two years tops lol). Anyway, that's all of my feelings for who I ship Dan with. Sorry that this got so long. I wasn't expecting to say this much because I did not know I had this much feeling~ OTL
Fair.
(But I DID ask Mandel on Facebook just to check. None of that stuff in the first paragraph was intentional, Dan was written to be straight........and also kinda a creep(as much of a creep as they could make him, I don't think they ever told The Hub Hortence's age), but still.
Apparently Crunchy is gay and Don is bi, so, use that info how you will.
Still, seeing it all layed out, I can definitely see how some people would come to that conclusion........on the Chris front anyway. The Imposter thing never sat well with me.

Ah yes, I've seen Mandel's reply about that. But fandoms are unpredictable so we really can't turn back now. But Dan is a creep so it's good to know that that's canon.
Also fair. It's not everybody's tea and that's ok.
Can’t turn back now? Buddy, you have no idea who your dealing with. I’m a little......what’s the term, unbridled madness?.
That and this fandoms fic count is barely in the triple digits. Won’t take much to even it.
————————- Yeah, Mandel openly said the relationship between Dan and Hortence was intentionally meant to be creepy(they obviously didn’t tell the hub the age details) M
Also, Mandel himself is......very straight(all the memes involving Dan fucking Amber, Elise, and a Sammich prove that point) and considering Dan was based off of him.....
Oh annd there’s the deleted scene with the stripper.
Yeah it’s decidedly not canon, neither is the trans theory, Hiram being Chris’s dad theory, mor Elise and Dan cohesion theory.
Ship what you please, but the people who say Dan “only be gay”, or “is very clearly meant to be gay”.....yeah that’s a bit too far. The creator didn’t intend that.mn
Crunchy WAS coded gay, and there was a deleted scene that confirms it, and I asked Madela. M m M
The Imposter being in love with Dan is like Joker being in love with Batman. It’s awkward.
